During Readers' workshop students have been learning that good readers ask questions as they read. We learned that this strategy helps readers interact with the text and process new information—so they understand what they are reading. As a class, we continued our close reading using a non-fiction text about the planets in the solar system! Students engaged in partner talk asking questions within the text they read. Questions consisted of the following: What was the text mostly about? What are the colder planets? Which are the warmer planets? What planets have rings? What planents have satellites (moons)? What's the scientific word for shooting star? What does the Latin word sol mean? After we shared out and answered our peers- we took our 60 seconds of Literacy Challenge! We visited the NASA Image of the Day page. As a class, students described what they saw and created a sentence to go with the image.
