Today during math workshop our focus was on making arrangements of numbers. We reviewed the vocabulary words number sentence, sum, and total. The Kindergarteners were able to talk about the arrangements they made and share with their partners!

Today in math workstations with our partners, we decomposed the number 5 into two parts. We talked about the new vocabulary word sum, as well as different combinations of 5 we could make. To help learn this new academic language we had the chance to act out story problems using marshmallows and hot cocoa mugs! Today during Readers' workshop and reading stations we explored non-fiction texts online! We looked closely at polar animals and where they live! Check out PebbleGo at home to learn more! PebbleGo! Kindergarten Manners in the Library Today we talked all about Martin Luther King Jr. We read a non-fiction text, viewed Moby on Brainpop Jr., and we even acted out Rosa Parks city bus experience in 1955, which led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Students were able to make the connection to the story The Crayon Box that Talked, which we read last week. They then created their own piece of writing about what peace is and their dream for James Morris School. This week each child has been using Lexia during readers' workshop. They have been benefiting from phonological skills, as well as higher-order reading skills. Check us out! This week the class has been learning all about non-fiction text! They have been learning how to explore the text, how to find information, as well as using post-it notes to mark their evidence and new learning! We just launched our new writing unit! We will be creating books all about topics we're experts in! We cut our ribbon to celebrate our new learning! We also discussed how we can be a brave writer! The class is so excited!
