First graders have been given time each day to write independently. They have been using their writing tools daily! Students had the chance to publish their work using the app 30 hands. With some extra help from one of our room parents- students experienced the last step of the writing process- PUBLISHING! It was amazing seeing them sitting next to one another and using this app!

On Thursday during our math mini-lesson we were introduced to the new math station How many am I hiding! We started off playing the game by hiding cubes and figuring out how many our partner hid on us! We were able to use our knowledge of number combinations! After our story and class discussion- we had the opportunity to play a listening game using our eyes playing a version of SIMON Says! Today we partnered up with our 4th grade reading buddies! We working on the learning target of asking and answering questions about our stories! We LOVE Thursdays! We have been putting forth more effort in our small moment writing! Here's us in action! Our math work is coming home tonight- take a look at what we did! During our phonics and word work lessons we have been studying the long and short vowel O! Our learning target has been hearing the difference betweent the two, continuing to practice sorting them, as well as spelling words with long O and making our own words! The past two days we have been reading a non-fiction informational text about Firefighters. We have been asking and answering questions about fire safety and prevention. Students said how firefighting is a serious business. Readers learned about the challenges firefighters face and the kinds of equipment they use. "It's very important work" exclaimed several students. The students responded to reading by analyzing questions.
