Yay! We celebrated filling our class marble jar today with a whole class lunch! We listened to music, sat altogether, and shared stories! We ended the celebration with a dance party! We moved and grooved to the HAPPY song! What a great way to end our week!
As you probably have heard from your child, we FILLED OUR MARBLE JAR last week! Our classroom marble jar is a way of promoting positive reinforcement with the class. Anytime the students use teamwork (group work, walking in the hall, transitioning throughout the classroom, working hard, getting a compliment, etc.) the students receive marbles in our classroom marble jar. We will celebrate tomorrow our success by having a picnic style lunch in our classroom! Yay!
We have been continuing to practice solving word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20! We have been using objects, drawings, and equations incorporating a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem! Check us out in our math stations! We ROCK!
WE are working hard this morning using think marks! Some of our meaningful connections in the book Mouse and Lion were, "I don't understand why Lion changed his mind about small creatures?", " I wonder why Lion let Mouse go?", "My favorite part was when Lion let Mouse go because Mouse was really able to help Lion out!"
This week we have been learning about how readers make connections to stories! When we read we think about the text. We may have a favorite part, thought a moment was funny, or even a moment when we wonder what may happen next. We have been learning how to record our thinking and why it's important readers do that! Ask us at home!
What we're learning in first grade. Students are also making comments in class! At home add to the posts, too.
