Mr. McTamney came today and visited the Kindergarten and First grade classrooms. He discussed what the Coast Guard branch was- how it worked- and the different jobs. The students watched some clips about water safety and received their very own U.S.C.G. coloring books! A BIG thank you to Mr. McTamney!!! Thank you for your dedication and serving our country!

Today we discussed consonant blends or just blends! We have been learning many of them! We practiced building words with our word word families and chunks playing a word work game called "Magic Spoons"! Today the entire school participated in a great event honoring our veterans who served our country. Each class shared out a song, poem, shared writing, as well as crafted special cards and poppies! Take a look at our video singing "America the Beautiful"! Today we discussed ways to be a good listener. What does it look like and sound like? What are the rules? We practiced these rules with our new friend Shell! We have been working hard and stretching our brains reading an expository text about Veterans Day and the history! Today we reflected on how using this reading strategy of visualizing could help us to understand and remember important information from a book! Yesterday we met with Mrs. Bills and prerecorded our song for our Veterans coming on Friday morning! Ask us to practice for you at home! It was great! Yesterday we took a look at quick images, but instead of looking at dot patterns as we did in our last unit, we looked at some shapes and recorded them! Today we worked with our partners using a total number of pattern blocks to made a design! We then had to record how many of each kind of pattern block we used. We then added up the total amount! First graders have started an enrichment collaboration that ties into literacy, art, and music! In our reading lessons, we will be focusing on vocabulary and study the unfamiliar words from the song "America the Beautiful". Students begun increasing their vocabulary today, while also increasing their knowledge of U.S. geography and Veteran's Day! This afternoon Mrs.Sweet and the class had a discussion to activate students' prior knowledge about sights and scenery throughout the United States! Students then sketched their own illustrations from the descriptive language to create a mural! Check out our blog again tomorrow to find out more about what we will be doing in music with Mrs. Bills! |
